The John Beltz Retreat Center

The 100-acre John Beltz Retreat Center in Galena is available by reservation only for campouts, church functions, family reunions, graduation parties, weddings, and other celebrations. 

Property Details

Amenities

The Retreat offers a rustic barn with 11 picnic tables, 2 stoves, 1 large refrigerator and a wood burning heater. The restroom facilities are not modern. There is a well pump for water. The parking lot has space for 30 cars.

The Chapel

An open-air chapel with bench seating is located a short distance from the barn, surrounded by pine and apple trees.

Camping

There are 10 campsites with fire rings, surrounded by pine trees. The communal camp fire is located next to the barns.

Play Areas

For kids, there's a play area, climbing bars, tether ball, a volleyball court, horseshoes, and softball and soccer fields.

The Grounds

The Retreat is home to more than 10,000 pine trees, planted by our members and Scout Troop 474. We have numerous trails and walking areas. Two streams run through the property and into the Hoover Reservoir. The wooded area includes wildflowers, mushrooms, and many other native plants.

Wildlife

The wildlife on the property includes fox, deer, turkey, woodchucks, squirrels, and many others. The streams have salamanders, snails, and other animals.

God’s Beauty, Year-round

Come see spring flowers, fall colors, and winter snows. The retreat is open 365 days a year. It is free for all members of Overbook and a nominal fee for others. The address is 4834 Harlem Rd in Galena, Ohio.
