John Beltz Retreat CenterMapIn 1967 John Beltz gifted 96 acres of beautiful grass meadows and forestland on Harlem Road in Southern Delaware County to Overbrook. Located just 30 minutes from the church, it is available 365 days a year at no charge to Overbrook members. All other organizations pay a nominal fee. Since 1969, two 48’ x 32’ barns have been built. A volley ball court, nature trails, a large fire ring, several campsites and restroom facilities have also been constructed on the property. There have been more than 10 Eagle Scout projects done at the retreat center. Some of them include the Chapel, a shelter, and a 900’ split rail fence installed across the front of the property. Every year hundreds of hours are donated in maintaining the facility for the enjoyment of the many groups who use the retreat center. In 2004 alone, 47 different groups used the facility. The retreat center was used 20 times by Overbrook members, 4 times by other churches, 10 families or business groups, 2 times by the Girl Scouts (including a 5 day camporee) and 21 times by the Boy Scouts. Not only is this facility a wonderful place for Overbrook members, but a community outreach as well. The John Beltz Retreat Committee urges all members to go out and enjoy the wildlife. Deer, wild turkey, fox, rabbits and squirrels are just some of the wildlife seen on the property. Spring wildflowers and fall colors are also very enjoyable. If you would like to reserve a date and time, please contact the church. In addition to the map available here there are maps available in the church office. Members who would like to help cut and split wood, clear brush, or mow grass are encouraged to contact the church office or any of the committee members. |
