Advent & Christmas 2020

Even though things are a bit different, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the Advent and Christmas seasons this year. (Advent items are found below the Christmas information.)

Two Virtual Christmas Eve Worship Services
Both services will be available online at noon on December 24th. When you are ready to worship, just go to:
  • Family-Oriented Worship Service:  A simple retelling of the Christmas Story using some familiar faces from our congregation.
  • Traditional Communion Worship Service:  Our traditional Christmas Eve service with a nod to our virtual reality. (Be sure to prepare items you’ll use for Communion before tuning in: crackers & juice, cookies & tea or other items you have at home.)
Outdoor Christmas Eve Candlelight Celebration

Join us on Christmas Eve at 7:00 p.m. in the church parking lot for a 15 minute Candlelight Celebration! We will gather – socially distanced and masked, of course – and safely spread the light of Christ.

Even though we will only gather for a short time, we encourage you to bundle up and bring a chair and blanket if you like! We know December weather is often cold, and a bit “iffy,” but will plan to forge ahead unless some bizarre weather event occurs! For that reason, and to help meet the requirements for contact tracing, REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  To register, click here.

Weekly Advent Worship Service
Each Sunday we post a new worship service online. Throughout Advent, we will light the Advent Wreath during our online service. To view, click here to go directly to our YouTube page

Light Your Own Advent Wreath
During this year of virtual worship in your own home, we hope you will create your own Advent Wreath to light along with us during online worship each week. At the time our family lights the candles in our online service, we invite you to light the corresponding candle on your wreath. The hope is that this will serve as yet another way we connect with our church family during this time at home. It does not need to be fancy! For more information and some simple ideas click here or search online for “DIY Advent Wreath.”

Christmas Carol Reflections

We have created a series of daily reflections using well-known Christmas carols and beautiful images on two of our social media sites. Just follow us on Instagram (OverbrookPresbyterian) or on our public Facebook page (OverbrookChurch) to automatically receive the daily reflection. We hope you’ll join us on this Advent through Epiphany journey!

Online Devotionals
An Advent Devotional can be one useful way to slow down and focus on the meaning of the Advent season. We have curated several possible devotional ideas for you.
